Sean O’Malley is lending some words of wisdom to Jake Paul as he embarks on his MMA fighter journey.

One of the biggest names in boxing, Jake Paul made a huge announcement this week when he revealed that he had signed a multi-fight deal with PFL. The move shocked many as Paul has been working exclusively out of the boxing ring. Now he will not only be fighting in MMA, but he will have an ownership role in the new PFL PPV events

The consensus around the MMA world and on social media seems optimistic about this move by Paul. He had been accepted by many of the fans and fighters. Sean O’Malley in particular has expressed his interest in this transition and took to his YouTube channel to chat with his brother about it.

Sean O’Malley gives his thoughts on Jake Paul fighting in PFL and how he should approach his MMA career

O’Malley and his brother put on a regular show on his YouTube channel where they talk about relevant MMA news stories and this week Paul was at the top of the list. In Paul’s announcement video, he explained his role with PFL, he would be the Head of Fighter Advocacy as well as fight in the promotion. He has never fought in MMA before but in his video claimed to be a wrestler in his younger days. O’Malley is putting on his coaching hat a little bit and explains how Paul can find success in the cage, in his opinion.

“If he picks the right fights and literally just wrestles defenses, I don’t even, I wouldn’t even say don’t even train jiu-jitsu. I mean you could, you might as well train jiu-jitsu but if you got good at takedown defense, he learned, picked up boxing pretty quick,” he said. “Jake’s got good boxing. Good, good takedown defense. Learn how to check some kicks, that’d be important. Depends on who he fights because if he fights anyone that is a really good wrestler and would take him down. But if you could fight some guy who’s, you know, six and three who’s a kickboxer, you know, who doesn’t wrestle at all there are ways he can win.”

Paul said that he already has an offer out there. He has requested that Nate Diaz fight him in a two-fight deal. First, they will fight in a boxing match and then six months later, they would fight in MMA. It is unclear how Paul’s grappling skills are at this point, and O’Malley made it seem that he would need five to six years of training to be able to compete at the highest level. Perhaps this MMA run will be more for show than to win titles, much like his boxing career so far, but either way, the fans are interested.
