Mike Perry reveals Khamzat Chimaev Offered to Train With Him in ‘Pretty Dangerous’ Chechnya

Mike Perry says Khamzat Chimaev wanted to train with him in Chechnya, but 'Platinum' doesn't plan on making the trip.

Mike Perry revealed that Khamzat Chimaev offered to train with ‘Platinum’ in Chechnya.

Perry has found tremendous success since parting ways with the UFC in 2021. ‘Platinum’ beat Michael Seals in the inaugural Triad Combat 1 boxing event and then went 2-0 with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, including a win against Bellator superstar Michael ‘Venom’ Page. Although he’s currently a bare-knuckle boxer, the former UFC welterweight still has some connections to MMA, including Khamzat Chimaev. During an interview with Helen Yee, the Michigan native had this to say about potentially training with ‘Borz’:

“He [Chimaev] told me to come to Chechnya when I was in Russia, and I was like, yeah, probably not gonna make it, bro. I heard that’s no man’s land. You shouldn’t go there. That’s a cool idea. That’s a cool rumor that it’s so dangerous there you shouldn’t go there, and it’s probably got some nice views, but I’ve heard Chechnya’s pretty dangerous, and maybe that’s why Khamzats so dangerous. And a lot of the Russian fighters, Islam Makhachev and Khabib [Nurmagomedov]. People think of them as the best guys out there. That’s what I’m trying to be recognized as too. I’m not saying I’m going to Chechnya, but maybe someday we will train together. Maybe in the United States. I saw him in Vegas before.”

Chimaev has a reputation for being a training beast. Considering Perry’s biggest weakness is grappling, training with ‘Borz’ could be critical if he plans to fight in MMA again. That said, the Russian-born fighter allegedly had his passport seized, leaving him unable to travel to the United States. Until that changes, the chances of ‘Platinum’ training with the UFC welterweight are unlikely.

Mike Perry Lists Nate Diaz as Preferred Next Opponent

Mike Perry is in the market for a new opponent. Although he has established himself as a superstar in bare-knuckle boxing, most well-known fighters aren’t willing to crossover and fight without gloves. During the same interview, ‘Platinum’ attempted to score a big-money fight by saying this when asked about who he wants next:

“Definitely, a Nate Diaz fight is a big, intriguing fight for me and for a lot of fans, I think. No matter what you choose or what ideas you have in life, someone’s gonna agree, someone’s gonna disagree. I think that’s a great fight… I could fight anyone. I’ve been calling out big names and also thinking about getting back to the UFC and fighting guys like Geoff Neal…”

Perry’s last win in bare-knuckle boxing against Bellator’s Michael ‘Venom’ Page skyrocketed the former UFC fighter’s value, giving him various options moving forward. He also told Helen Yee he’s potentially interested in rejoining the UFC or fighting MMA somewhere else. Regardless of the rule set, MMA fans know they can expect fireworks when ‘Platinum’ is fighting.
