Matt Brown’s first MMA fight sounds like something straight out of a movie.
Brown is renowned by hardcore MMA fans as being a true warrior. While his 23-18 record may not jump off the screen, he’s been in some wars and has even beaten high-level competition such as Stephen Thompson. Brown has demonstrated true grit and there perhaps isn’t a better example of this than the day he had his first MMA fight.
Matt Brown On Wild Leadup To First MMA Bout
Speaking to MMAJunkie, Matt Brown revealed that he had done cocaine ahead of his first impromptu MMA fighter. He also had to borrow a used jockstrap.
“My buddy brought me to a fight. I’d only seen it on VHS tapes. Tank Abbott was my dude. So, I never even really considered doing it. We went to this fight and we were doing a bunch of coke. We were all coked up and it was just old school what you’d see on TV where there are like guys smoking cigars, betting.
“They’re like, ‘Who wants to fight the champion?’ I just stood up and I was like, ‘I wanna fight this guy tonight.’ Signed up that day, went across the street. There was a sporting goods store, happened to be right across the street coincidently enough. Bought me a mouthpiece.
“There was a restaurant across the street and went and used their microwave to boil the mouthpiece. Come back, my buddy that went there to fight let me borrow his used jockstrap and used shorts [laughs].
“I fought that night and I won.”
Brown is set to have his 42nd pro MMA fight this weekend (March 26). He’ll take on Bryan Barberena on the main card of a UFC Columbus event. The two were initially set to meet at UFC Vegas 44 in late 2021 but Brown was pulled after testing positive for COVID-19.
Cocaine, a used jockstrap, two fights in one night.
