  • Maycee Barber wants Taila Santos to get another crack at Valentina Shevchenko
  • Barber opened up about a stalker that recently got jailed

Maycee Barber is one of the most promising talents in mixed martial arts. She made her way into the UFC through Dana White’s Contender Series in Jul. 2018 and went undefeated in her first eight professional bouts. She has gone 6-2 under the banner with her only two losses coming to Alexa Grasso and Roxanne Modafferi.

Maycee Barber calls for an immediate rematch between Valentina Shevchenko and Taila Santos

In an exclusive interview with James Lynch of Middle Easy, Maycee Barber shared her thoughts on the first encounter between Shevchenko and Santos, calling for an immediate rematch.

“That’s a matchup that everybody needs to see that rematch. I agree, Talia was giving her a lot of problems. I feel like Valentina got lucky with that injury or that bump on Taila Santos’ eye. I would love to see that rematch. That’s the fight that makes sense. I think that she was the one fighter that has exposed Valentina the most. I’ve said that before in different interviews and stuff but I know for a fact that that fight could easily have gone the other way.

“But at the same time, you have to take the title away from the champion so I can also see why they didn’t give it to her even though I feel like she dominated that fight.”

Barber reported her stalker was sentenced to jail

‘The Future’ opened up about the difficulties she faced from having a stalker and reported that he finally got jailed.

“I had a pretty serious stalker situation which went on about 2-3 years. At the time when I missed weight, that was when he was not in jail and he was somewhere in Denver, I was fighting in Denver so it was super high-stress. They had the SWAT after him, the security at the fight had a picture of him and knew this is the guy to not let in… That happened during my weight cut so I was really stressed out. That’s not an excuse, I did what I could and I tried to make the weight and I missed the weight so that’s on me and I still wanted that fight so we made it work. The end of that story is he’s in jail now. He’s being sentenced to like 10 years.

“Every female athlete is gonna have that,” Barber talked about other female fighters. “Every female is gonna have that. This world is dark and dirty and I feel like social media has allowed people to just say whatever they want and have no repercussions whatsoever.

“I don’t read through messages and it sucks because there’s times where there’s messages from young girls, young people, that are good, but the stalker that I had was impersonating a young girl, so it’s hard to really decipher and figure out who is who and what’s what.

So to protect my own self, I just try not to respond at all. I feel like a lot of people are doing the negative stuff to get a reaction and if you give them that reaction it fuels that and they make up this stuff in their mind. But to avoid all the creepers and the gross people, I just can’t respond. I can’t do it anymore.”

Maycee Barber was last seen in action against Jessica Eye in July at UFC 276. She came out on top of the contest by unanimous decision and extended her winning run to three. She is expected to face Andrea Lee next in March 2023.
