Yoel Romero Withdraws From Bout Due To Illness
The idea of a rematch between Yoel Romero and Jacare Souza was short lived. About three weeks out from the bout, Yoel Romero has pulled out from the match.
When Paulo Costa was pulled from his bout with Yoel Romero because of mysterious circumstances, Jacare Souza was quick to step in. However, now Yoel Romero is unable to fight, and he is citing illness.
According to a report from AG Fight, Yoel Romero has been forced to pull out because of pneumonia. The post cites “sources close to the organization,” as providing information on Yoel’s removal from the event.
Jacare Souza took to Twitter to voice displeasure on the removal of his opponent.
Romero está fora da luta e o cara que eles trouxeram para luta comigo está correndo, como sempre acontece comigo.
Romero is out and the guy the flew in is running away from me, like always happens to me.— Ronaldo Jacaré (@JacareMMA) April 4, 2019
“Romero is out and the guy the flew in is running away from me, like always happens to me.”
It is unclear currently, whether or not Jacare will remain on the card. However, it was confirmed to ESPN that the UFC is looking to find a new main event. It was mentioned that the UFC was struggling to find an appropriate main event replacement on such short notice.
But according to Combate, UFC is actively looking to fill back Paulo Costa who was originally the main opponent for Jacare..
The UFC Miami card’s co-main event is currently the return of controversial figure Greg Hardy. It is unclear if the UFC will make this the new main event, considering the controversial nature of Hardy, in addition to his limited fight experience. Not to mention Hardy’s only UFC bout to date was also controversial in itself.
