I spent all of Tuesday afternoon arguing with the folks over at Sirius XM Radio about Clay Guida’s strategy in his lackluster loss to Gray Maynard. What we failed to discuss on the radio was that Clay Guida broke every record the UFC ever had for ‘Octagon distance traveled’ in a five round fight. Whether that means the judges should have scored it for Guida instead of for Maynard is uncertain, but it’s a criteria that should be considered in future fights where fighters choose to circumnavigate the cage instead of proceeding directly with linear attacks. It’s an ongoing debate with the makers of Mortal Kombat too. They tried the 3D thing, but ultimately returned to a 2D platform because it’s more exciting. All we know is that Shinya Aoki and Bibiano Fernandes will never do the lighter weight classes any injustice, and that is why OneFC has inked a deal with both of them to appear on their Manila fight card on August 31. Since most of you know who Shinya Aoki is and what his magic pants look like, here’s a highlight reel (complete with epic music) of the bantamweight the UFC almost signed to fight Roland Delorme at UFC 149 in Calgary.
