Upsets abound at Amazon Forest Combat

The fantastically named promotion ‘Amazon Forest Combat’ held their first show in Manaus, Brazil yesterday and featured a home-grown undercard with a UFC veteran-heavy main card. First off, Karo Parisyan lost a third in a row, dropping a split decision to Jordan Smith. Keep your head up Karo. Next, Maiquel Falcao had his 9 fight win streak snapped by a second round kimura against Antonio Braga which takes him to 7-1.

There must have been something about Drew Fickett that Ronys Torres didn’t like. Maybe Drew looked at him funny, or maybe it was because he failed to make weight, forcing the bout to be contested at 170lbs instead of the previously agreed 161lbs. Either way, Torres got a nice feather in his cap by ending the fight in 47 seconds when Fickett submitted to strikes which will no doubt go a long way in his bid to get back into the UFC.

I can’t really believe I’m the same age as Satoshi Ishii. I mean, the guy holds wins over Minowaman and Jerome Le Banner. He should really hold a win over Paulo Filho too but for some unknown reason the judges scored their bout a draw. Don’t believe me? Read the play-by-play.

The final fight of the night was also the final fight of Royler Gracie’s MMA career. He took on Masakatsu Ueda, fresh from a disgusting first round liver-kick KO of Rumina Sato at Shooto – Shootor’s Legacy 3. Ueda made sure Gracie’s career ended with a loss which takes the 45 year old to a final tally of 5-5-1.
