Video: UFC’s Jared Gordon ‘Nearly Lost Three Fingers’ In Street Altercation With Gang Members

Jared Gordon, a UFC featherweight Injured In Street Brawl

Jared Gordon is well known for substance abuse gone to rehab ten times, and he’s lucky to be alive. Well, trouble seems to find Gordon wherever he goes.

During his conversation with BloodyElbow earlier this month, Gordon revealed how his left hand got busted so bad during a street altercation with street gang members while he was waiting in line outside the barbershop with his buddies on New York City street corner in Queens before his UFC fight.

Gordon has won his first two UFC octagon outing and most recently coming off TKO loss to Carlos Diego Ferreira at UFC Austin on Feb. 18 that snapped his five-fight win streak snapped. Due to that incident, he was not 100% into his fight against Diego.

Gordon, 29, recalls the story how he was enjoying the cup of coffee with his friends when random thugs approached them, and the whirlwind starts immediately.

“That’s when I jumped him. We all started fighting. My friend starts fighting the other kid, and they bumped into me and the kid I was fighting. We hit the storefront window, and the whole thing came down on us.”

When police arrived, they informed the Gordon if they want to press charge against them; also, it would be rather lengthy process, and that included him and his friends to stay in lockup overnight. After hearing that Gordon opted out of the situation.

So I was like, ‘F-ck that, I’m not going to jail for the night,’” Gordon said. “I’ve been to jail too many times. The cops said, ‘We’re just going to let it go then.’ It’s not worth the headache. You have to hire a lawyer and go through the whole process. F-ck that.”

Jared Gordon ultimately sliced up his fingers after shattered window glass falling on him, resulting in a total of 21 stitches.

That’s not the end here.

A week later, Gordon slipped on an escalator at Grand Central Station during a rainy day that opened up his sealed wound again, which led him to make another trip to a plastic surgeon. Gordon took to Twitter to reveal some grotesque picture of his injured fingers.

On being asked why he didn’t pull out of his fight due to injury, Gordon said he wanted to honor his obligations.

“I have never brought this up before, because I am not one to make excuses and I don’t want to make it look like I am making excuses,” Gordon said. “I took the fight because I didn’t want to pull out. I had missed weight before in my first fight, and this was my third fight — the last thing that I wanted to do was pull out and have it look like I was having weight cutting problems again or make it look like I am unreliable,” he added.

“I had a terrible training camp because I couldn’t spar or wrestle or do jiu-jitsu,” he said. “All I did was run and shadow box and kick the bag for the whole fight camp, because I had one hand. Hats off to Diego; he did what he had to do. Nothing against him. But, I just think that if the fight camp didn’t go down the way it did, [the fight] would be different. It is what it is.”
