Tyron Woodley Says Khabib Was A Good Fighter But Not In His ‘Top 10’ Of All-Time Greats

Tyron Woodley is a fan of Khabib Nurmagomedov but does not believe he should be in the conversation of all-time greats.

Former UFC welterweight champion Woodley moved on from his days of competing inside the cage after dropping four bouts in a row. He went on to face YouTube sensation-turned-boxer, Jake Paul, in two matches, both of which he lost, including a brutal knockout that had him out cold on the canvas.

Meanwhile, former UFC lightweight champion Khabib has maintained his presence in the mixed martial arts community with his own fight promotion and coaching activities. The undefeated Dagestani chose to hang up his gloves after racking up a sensational record of 29-0, without any blemishes.

Tyron Woodley doesn’t have Khabib Nurmagomedov in his top 10 GOAT list

In a recent appearance on BS w/ Jake Paul, Woodley talked about some of the greatest athletes ever to take to the octagon under the UFC banner. He dismissed the validity of Khabib, who he respects but believes should not even be in the same discussion.

“[Khabib] on my top 10 list? Probably not. I f*ck with Khabib. I like him, I respect him a lot. I think he’s a good fighter,” Woodley said. “I think his type of fight for that weight class (lightweight), nobody could do that besides Sean Sherk back in the day. But, like, he was just really aggressive, but I didn’t see the wrestler with good hands fight him so I couldn’t really jump on that train.”

Woodley revealed his personal all-time greatest fighters

With Khabib out of the picture, Woodley revealed his picks for the greatest fighters of all time, drawing a clear difference between who he believed was the most skilled, his personal favorite, and the best ever to do it.

“I think Jon Jones is the best fighter we have seen whether he fought consistently or whatever is the case. Anderson Silva, I would say is the GOAT because he did it in a really respectful way, never really had much that kept him away from there and he beat people without being able to talk sh*t that everybody else did. Demetrious Johnson is the most well-rounded fighter we ever saw. I f*ck with Georges St-Pierre because he was very respectful all the time. Carlos Condit was my favorite fighter to watch… so I would do Carlos Condit for sure.

“Anderson Silva I gotta say is the GOAT.”

While Woodley may have counted out Khabib, many believe ‘The Eagle’ was the best fighter ever, including top-ranked lightweight contender Beneil Dariush. Khabib will attend the upcoming UFC 280, set for Oct. 22 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, to corner his teammate Islam Makhachev and Belal Muhammad.
