Tom Aspinall has responded to Michael Bisping’s high praise and bold statement.

Recently, Bisping told Sky Sports that he doesn’t think UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones can hold a candle to Aspinall. He even shared his belief that the rising English heavyweight can dispatch of Jones as quickly as he did to Marcin Tybura. The bold prediction has drawn criticism, given that Jones is one of the greatest fighters of all time and Aspinall is still unproven at an elite level.

Tom Aspinall On Michael Bisping’s Praise

Sky Sports spoke to Tom Aspinall and got his reaction to the strong words Bisping had on how a fight between him and Jones would go. Aspinall was humble, yet confident in his response.

“Well, Bisping’s bigging me up there a bit, isn’t he? I bet Bisping’s gotten lots of hate from that, I’m sure,” Aspinall said. “I definitely am capable of doing that to Jon Jones. I’m capable of doing that to anybody, but whether I will or not I don’t know. Jon Jones is one of the greatest of all time, but I’m definitely confident I can beat him. Whether I can beat him with that much ease, I don’t know. But I wouldn’t be surprised if that happens, you know what I mean? I feel like I’m one of the most skilled heavyweights ever, and I feel like I’m also two speeds above everybody else and doing stuff that people can’t even see at heavyweight. So, I’m definitely capable of doing it, but whether or not it’ll play out like that, who knows?”

Aspinall has gone 9-1 in his last 10 outings. The lone defeat in that span was due to a knee injury he suffered just 15 seconds into his bout against Curtis Blaydes. The aforementioned Tybura fight was Aspinall’s rebound, and he won that bout in one minute and 13 seconds.

As far as a potential bout between Jones and Aspinall goes, that isn’t a given. “Bones” has teased retiring after his UFC heavyweight title defense against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 on November 11.
