The extraordinary and mysterious circumstances surrounding the UFC 158 main event weigh-ins

GSP vs. Diaz was like eating a smore Pop Tart: Flaky, filled with questionable content and exactly what you expected. Somewhat like the smore Pop Tart, the UFC 158 main event also keeps on giving. Now, in the latest of a long line of conspiracies stemming from this bout, a video roughly a hair off the magnitude of the Zapruder film has come to the surface of the MMA community, and what’s in it is as mind-bottling as the innards of the smore Pop Tart I was talking about before.

Basically, the man with the longest title in the world; President of Business and Legal Affairs and Assistant General Counsel for the UFC Michael Mersh, talked to Nick Diaz and his camp right before weigh-ins to let Nick know that in case he or Georges were to come in overweight, they would have an hour. It doesn’t sound sketchy when put like that, as Nate Diaz had an hour to lose his extra weight against Ben Henderson, but this was a weird, hush hush situation. Was it an ‘off the record’ allowance of .9 pounds? We aren’t sure, the video was taken down and it may be gone forever.

The UG transcribed it in time though.

“Here, they’re going to allow you and Georges to have an extra hour,” Mersch says. “Just in case somebody doesn’t make it.”

“But the good news is, they don’t count the decimal. If you’re 170.2 it’s 170. If it’s 170.9. it’s 170.”

A member of the Diaz camp responds, asking “why didn’t we know that before?”

Mersch continues.

“Should be fine, hopefully, other than that. Just so you guys are in the loop, if there’s …”

Again, a member of the Diaz camps responds, asking “why didn’t you tell us that yesterday?”

Mersch continues.

“Well, no,” he says. “It’s just something to keep in mind. That’s kind of an off the record type of thing. But keep that in mind. As long as he’s under 171, we should be good.

“But, there is a time period afterwards, for you and Georges only. All the other fighters have to make it the first time. Just letting you guys be in the loop, okay?”

“Good luck.”

A member of the Diaz camp quips, “that’s a loophole… A Canadian loophole.”

Here is the spooky remnants of the taken down video:

Update: We found the video!

We just want to take our tinfoil hats off already.
