Here at MiddleEasy we are always striving to improve upon our grammar and literary skills. We will not ever claim to be champions of grammar but we do consistently try to at least appear as though we could pass a tenth grade English exam. Knowing there is a lurking clan of verbal knife wielding grammar nazis led by a very cunning and dangerous man named Ted Malakhov keeps us going. Sometimes we even have nightmares about Ted in which he appears like a sadistic English professor seated behind a massive wood desk looking over our articles while brandishing his weapon of choice-a fine tip blood red Sharpie marker. We will not let those big red x’s keep us from pushing forward. Our very own moniker was born upon an inadvertent typo and we will fight on in honor of our name.
In that case, we will have a small English lesson of sorts to further our quest to beat the ruthless red pen of Ted Malakhov and his literary nazi troops. Today we will learn about a thing called an ‘analogy’. An analogy is something that shows the similarity of two things that might seem very different. Our analogy is going to be based on the movie The Christmas Story and the UFC 153 Sillva vs Bonnar fight. Two completely different things-that is, until we add a quote from Bonnar about his Mom that we read over on Tatame.com today.
“She worries a lot and knows how good the Anderson Silva is and she does not accept the fight. ‘You’ll be killed dead,’ she said.”
So how does this quote enable us to make a comparison between The Christmas Story and UFC 153 Silva vs Bonnar? That’s simple really. Imagine Stephan Bonnar is the UFC version of Ralphie Parker, and Bonnar’s Mom is then obviously Ralphie’s Mom-Mrs. Parker. All Ralphie wants in the movie is a brand new Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas but hie Mother (along with virtually every other adult in the movie), insists it is far too dangerous and that Ralphie will ‘shoot his eye out’ if he plays with this dangerous toy.
Therefore if Bonnar is Ralphie, then Anderson Silva is that dangerous Red Ryder BB Gun that Ralphie wants to put his grubby little hands on. Bonnar’s Mom scoffs at the idea apparently, and just thinks Bonnar is going to ‘shoot his eye out’ by taking this fight with the dangerous Silva. There you have it kids-an MMA analogy.
