Sokoudjou is teaching an orthodox rabbi to become an MMA fighter

How hilarious would it be if an orthodox rabbi developed an unorthodox boxing style? Alright, not that funny. Fortunately that was my joke for the day, so you won’t have to waddle through all the nonsense this time.

Rabbi Yossi Eilfor started training with Sokoudjou at Team Quest six months ago and this Sunday he’s slated to have his second amateur fight in Thousand Oaks, California (a place that drastically has under a thousand oaks, actually). Eilfor’s first MMA bout was held in North Hollywood at something called Mansion Fights — an event so exclusive that it evaded my MMA radar (or maybe I just wasn’t important enough to get an invite, damn).

With 12 years of Krav Maga experience, 22-year-old Yossi Eilfor may be the next biggest thing in MMA — that is if the MMA world can get past the novelty of an orthodox rabbi beating someone’s face in on the eve of Purim Katan. Check out the news clip below, which features Eilfor’s first MMA bout and a rare appearance by Pride FC Nog-killer, Sokoudjou.
