Sijara Eubanks Earns Decision Over Roxanne Modafferi

Sijara Eubanks and Roxanne Modafferi clashed in a women’s flyweight bout in the preliminary card of UFC 230 which went down tonight in New York. Eubanks slightly missed the weight for tonight’s showdown with Modafferi, came in at 127.2 pounds.

Eubanks open the round with low kicks and popping some punches. She hurled several punches. Modafferi also landed a jab. It looks like Modafferi’s punches are having any impact on Eubanks as Sijara clearly has a speed advantage. Eubanks scores an early takedown and controls the action. Roxanne scrambles out to full guard. Eubanks landed a big hammer-fist to close out the round.

In round two, Modafferi came forward with a full flurry. Eubanks avoids and counters with a right hand. Inside leg kick from Modafferi then Eubanks also landed a leg kick that hurts Modafferi. She got wobbly. Eubanks hurled a right hand, and Roxanne hits the floor. Sijara hurled several punches in hopes of ending the fight. Modafferi scrambles out of a situation. Both fighters clinch against the cage and Roxanne manage to score a trip takedown and take control of top position in half guard. Modafferi hurled a knee to the chest. Eubanks looks for Kimura. Roxy throws some right hands that end the round.

By round three, Modafferi came in forward and landed some good shots on a tired Eubanks. Modafferi also hurled a nice jab and then a big right hand. Eubanks landed a harder right hand. Eubanks responded with body lock takedown. Modafferi tried a reversed position and get back repeatedly, but Eubanks takes her back and lands some rights that end the fight in a unanimous decision.

Eubanks won two bouts in a row with a record of 4-2; meanwhile, Modafferi 22-15 has dropped two of her past three fights.
