Sean Strickland has opened up on his UFC 296 brawl against Dricus Du Plessis.

Strickland and Du Plessis are set to headline UFC 297 in Toronto on Jan. 20 for the middleweight title, as Strickland looks for his first title defense. It’s an intriguing matchup and in the lead-up to the bout, the two were in attendance at UFC 296 and sat just two rows apart.

After the two were shown on the jumbotron and TV, they began trash-talking one another when Strickland jumped the row and started to fight Du Plessis. In the video, it didn’t look like many clean shots had landed, but according to the middleweight champ, he bit the South African.

Speaking on Theo Von’s podcast, Sean Strickland opened up on the brawl and why he decided to bite Du Plessis. He also revealed Du Plessis was the one who said ‘let’s go’ and believes the UFC knew what they were doing by sitting him so close to the South African.

“I’m so happy they didn’t get it from a right angle, I bit him. I shit you not. Whenever he went into me, I remember at that moment, he tackles me and right there, you see my head goes up towards him, I started thinking how can hurt this man? I’m going take a f****** chunk out of him. I’m going to bite his f*****g ear off. I remember telling myself at that moment, ‘Sean, you can’t do that, that’s something you can’t walk away from.’ If you do that, then I’m going to jail,” Strickland said on Theo Von’s podcast.

Interestingly, Sean Strickland admitted to biting Dricus Du Plessis in the brawl, when no one was aware of it. But, Strickland even though he did bite Du Plessis, the American has full confidence in his striking ability to beat the South African on Jan. 20 at UFC 297.
