- Sean O’Malley is open to traveling to Spain for a showdown with Ilia Topuria
- “Sugar” shared what he thinks Marlon Vera should do next
Sean O’Malley is eager to face Ilia Topuria for a super fight and has some unsolicited advice for Marlon Vera.
Sean is about massive fights
Speaking to reporters in his UFC 299 post-fight presser, “Sugar” reiterated his plan to move up to the featherweight division and become a two-division champ. According to O’Malley, he would have to discuss things over with the UFC about it but a showdown with “El Matador” is one of the things he is considering to do next.
“Moving up to 45, that’s champ versus champ automatically is huge… it’s just an exciting fight. I’m here for massive fights,” O’Malley said.
“Technically, I’m not defending a belt so I don’t know about the pay-per-view. I would have to talk to the UFC I don’t think that would be an issue I’ve always been able to work out something with the UFC so you know if that’s the case, that might be a bigger fight but again I’m gonna talk, we’ll talk and figure it out,” he explained.
Sean says he could KO Ilia
As expected, the brash champion already believes he could knock Topuria out and he is also fine if they do it in Spain.
“I show up and perform wherever we’re at. I could fly to Spain and fight Ilia. That doesn’t
bother me… I think a fight with anybody I win by knockout. Obviously, I didn’t knock Chito out but I don’t lose confidence from that. Chito’s so tough but yeah I believe I could put Ilia’s lights out,” O’Malley said.
What should Chito do next
As for Vera, O’Malley thinks “Chito” has some “good options” at this point. However, “Sugar” believes Vera also needs rest because of the damage he caused.
“Chito versus Henry could be an interesting fight. Chito versus Petr could be an interesting fight. Chito versus Aljo would’ve been an interesting fight. He’s somewhat of a star. He’s got some good options too but he’ll probably need some good time off as well, I think I broke his face,” O’Malley said.
O’Malley’s unanimous decision win over Vera saw him successfully defending his bantamweight title and getting revenge for his TKO loss back in 2020. While a super fight with Topuria makes sense, O’Malley might have to wait for the featherweight champion’s decision as “El Matador” has got his eyes the bigger fish such as Conor McGregor.
