Sean O’Malley Picking Marlon Vera Over Dominick Cruz: ‘He Somehow F*cking Figures It Out’

O'Malley originally picked Cruz to come out on top, but has seemingly changed his mind now ahead of UFC San Diego.

Sean O’Malley has had a change of heart when it comes to Marlon Vera vs. Dominick Cruz.

Vera and Cruz clash in the UFC San Diego headliner taking place this weekend in what is a potentially pivotal bantamweight encounter.

Although nothing is official, it could very well be possible that the winner stakes a claim for the next title shot.

That’s what O’Malley is hearing — only that they’ll get the opportunity after him.

“We’ve got Dominick Cruz vs. Chito Vera. Five-round main event in San Diego,” O’Malley said on his YouTube channel. “It’s a big fight for both those guys. Some say it’s a number one contender fight — whoever wins is the number one contender and gets to fight for the belt after me, that’s what I’m hearing.”‘

Of course, there was a bit of tongue-in-cheek from O’Malley there.

“Sugar” takes on former champion Petr Yan at UFC 280 on October 22 and it’s more than possible the winner of that fight can also get a title shot, especially if it’s O’Malley who comes out on top.

Sean O’Malley: Hard To Count Chito Out

But how does O’Malley see this weekend’s headliner going?

Although initially, he sided with Cruz over his longtime rival, O’Malley has seemingly changed his mind now and believes Vera could come out on top.

“Who do I think wins? You know, I said Dominick Cruz at one point,” O’Malley said. “Chito’s not very fast, Dominick Cruz is a little bit quicker, very experienced, good at going five rounds. Hard to count Chito out, though. He somehow f*cking figures it out.

“… Who knows what kind of injuries he’s [Cruz] going into it with? Chito kicks that nerve. You know what I mean?”

Vera is on a three-fight winning streak and is coming off an impressive unanimous decision victory over Rob Font in April.

Cruz, meanwhile, has won two in a row with his last outing being a unanimous decision win over Pedro Munhoz back in December.
