Sean O’Malley has chimed in on a possible grappling match between Georges St-Pierre and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

St-Pierre is ready to hit the mats again, but he has ruled out a return to pro MMA competition. Instead, “Rush” has his sights set on grappling matches. The first opponent he has in mind is his old rival, Michael Bisping. The two have grown quite chummy over the years, and St-Pierre has said he wants a grappling match with “The Count,” but he’d also like to train with him.

GSP vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov In Grappling

While that is a grappling match between two legends, it doesn’t exactly excite Sean O’Malley’s coach Tim Welch. During a recent episode of the “TimboSugarShow,” he expressed greater interest in a potential grappling match between St-Pierre and Nurmagomedov

“People would be pumped to see Khabib vs. Georges grappling,” Welch said. “With like an ADCC-style ruleset. That would be f*cking sick. I wonder if Khabib would beat Georges in an ADCC top style.”

O’Malley chimed in, saying that one key element changes things when it comes to St-Pierre vs. Nurmagomedov.

“It’s weird,” O’Malley said. “It changes it with no cage.”

Welch isn’t so sure that at this stage in his life “The Eagle” would want a high-profile grappling match with GSP.

“I wonder if Khabib would do that,” Welch said.

O’Malley doesn’t appear to be optimistic about the possibility of seeing GSP and Khabib hit the mats.

“Probably not,” O’Malley responded.

Nurmagomedov stepped away from cornering teammates in an effort to spend more time with his family. American Kickboxing Academy coach Javier Mendez recently clarified to “The Schmo” that Nurmagomedov never said he would stop coaching altogether.

Whether or not Nurmagomedov is willing to engage in grappling matches in the future remains to be seen. For now, it seems fans will have to make do with GSP vs. Bisping.
