Whether he knows it or not Roy Nelson is close to having the most famous mullet ever. Yes, even more famous than Hannah Montana’s Dad in the early 90’s. With his upcoming fight against Frank Mir, the TUF season 10 winner is poised to show a whole new generation what business up front, party in the back means…one moon belly rub at a time. Even masters of the fine arts like James Michael Smith, the creator of the fine drawing you see above these words has gotten in on the act, immortalizing Roy’s fantastic hairstyle via lavish strokes of his artistic utensil of choice. Roy spoke to MMAJunkie about where a win over Frank would put him in the UFC heavyweight pecking order.
“I’m fighting a two-time champion, the longest reigning heavyweight employed by current Zuffa. He’s basically a legend of the heavyweight division. I think whoever wins this fight is going to get the next title shot.”
“I’m in my prime. I became a champion in other organizations. Now, I just want to make a run at this. Pretty much any organization I get into I become champion. So this is my run in the UFC.”
We’ve plugged it a billion times, but if you haven’t already, you really should check out Frank Mir vs Roy Nelson at Grapplers Quest in 2003. It’s a highly entertaining look at a slim and mulletless Roy the year Kill Bill came out. While we are plugging you should check out James Michael Smith’s other creations at his site.
