Robert Whittaker shared his thoughts on Chris Weidman’s controversial eye poke incident with Bruno Silva and the potential title fight between Dricus du Plessis and Israel Adesanya.

Chris poked his way to victory

Speaking on his MMArcade podcast, “The Reaper” weighed in on his fellow former middleweight champion’s situation following UFC Atlantic City. According to Whittaker, Weidman clearly poked Silva with a “one-two” combination and the commission really needs to take a look at it.

While talking about the issue, Whittaker couldn’t help but laugh as he thinks what “The All-American” pulled off was epic.

“I do think they’re significant enough that it needs to be looked at,” Whittaker said.

“Firstly, no joke and this led into the finish: Weidman gave him a one-two with two eye pokes. I think it’s a bit funny how he got a win but that’s not my job to worry about that side of things but he hit him with the one and then hit him with the two in both eyes. That was his next level. I loved it… It looked funny as,” he added.

Robert is hurt by DDP vs. Izzy

When asked to comment about the talked-about Du Plessis vs. Adesanya title fight, Whittaker admitted that it’s kind of hard to think that he is not gonna be the other half of the next middleweight championship bout. However, “The Reaper” also acknowledged that it would be an interesting fight.

“I think Adesanya fighting for a title again hurts me like, but I understand, Dricus has asked for it. He’s a champ, gets what he wants. It seems like the fight that was going to happen in my opinion,” Whittaker said.

“It’s an interesting fight, I can see Adesanya just piecing him up for five rounds but in saying that Dricus is tough as nails and he’s awkward I can also see Dricus getting in there and just making it awkward and I don’t know taking him out of his rhythm,” he continued.

Whittaker is coming off a dominant win over Paulo Costa and is set to face Khamzat Chimaev at UFC Saudi. The bout will determine the No. 1 middleweight contender.
