Rener Gracie has let MMA fans know why Arman Tsarukyan didn’t tap despite Charles Oliveira’s elite-level submission attempts at UFC 300.

Arman’s defense was exceptional

In a short video post on X, the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt explained why Tsarukyan was able to do the impossible despite how sensation Oliveira’s guillotine choke in the opening round. According to Gracie, “Do Bronx” could’ve pulled it off if Tsarukyan’s shorts weren’t too slippery.

“Arman Tsarukyan’s shorts were perfectly on loose. So, when Oliveira had him on guillotine… the sweat plus the loose shorts, [Oliveira’s legs] sliding down, Tsarukyan’s pants fell off mid-fight, fully exposing his butt to the crowd,” Gracie said while re-enacting Oliveira’s guillotine attempt on Tsarukyan.

Rener also discussed Oliveira’s D’Arce choke attempt on “Ahalkalakets” late in the final round. Gracie said that Tsarukyan did a tremendous job of flattening his belly out as it was the best way to defend a D’Arce.

“What Tsarukyan did was. he prones out, goes to his belly and flattened out. This is a legitimate defense to a D’Arce,” Gracie explained.

Arman is ready for Islam

Tsarukyan’s spectacular split decision win over Oliveira certainly dictates what lies ahead of him. Islam Makhachev is already booked for UFC 302 to defend his lightweight title against Dustin Poirier but “Ahalkalakets” is very likely to be next in line.

At the moment, Tsarukyan said he needs to rest but he would be ready for Makhachev as soon as he fully recovers. But for now, “Ahalkalakets” would have to wait and see if Makhachev would be able to defend his belt against “The Diamond.”

Tsarukyan has now gone unbeaten in his last four trips to the Octagon.
