Rafael Dos Anjos Vs. Colby Covington Set For Interim Title Fight At UFC 224

An interim welterweight title fight between Rafael dos Anjos and Colby Covington is set for UFC 224 on May 12 in Rio de Janeiro, as per MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani but BJPenn.com first reported the news of potential matchup last month.

Covington (13-1) is riding a five-fight winning streak, is fighting again in Brazil, where he picked up a victory over Demian Maia back in October at Sao Paulo. Following his win, he incensed Brazilian fans and referred them as “filthy animals.

Dos Anjos (28-9) is a former UFC lightweight champion is 3-0 since moving up to 170 pounds with wins over Tarec Saffiedine, Neil Magny, and Robbie Lawler.

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley last fought at UFC 214 where he picked a victory over Maia back in July of 2017. During that contest, he suffered a shoulder injury which required surgery and has been recovering since. As per MMAFighting, Woodley is hoping to return this July.

Woodley is expected to unify the titles with the winner of dos Anjos vs. Covington upon his return. UFC 224 will headline by women’s Bantamweight title fight between Amanda Nunes and Raquel Pennington on May 12 in Rio de Janeiro.
