Paulo Costa Rooting For Yoel Romero To Miss Weight So He Can Get 30 Percent Of Purse
UFC is trying to book like a middleweight bout between Paulo Costa and Yoel Romero at UFC 230 on Nov. 3 inside Madison Square Garden in New York City; however, nothing is official yet.
Romero who underwent broken orbital bone surgery less than a month ago and, according to sources, he isn’t ready to accept his next fight until he fully heals.
Paulo Costa is hopeful that Romero will sign the contract on his end.
”I’ve signed the contract, it’s on for me,” Costa told MMA Fighting. “He has his contract already, he’s just needs to get up the courage and sign it. But he will sign it. He doesn’t have anyone else to fight.”
Undefeated Costa won his first four UFC fights and most recently coming off second-round TKO win over Uriah Hall earlier this month at UFC 226. After the win, Brazilian campaign for a crack at former 185-pound champion Chris Weidman. However, “All American,” appears to have other plans.
Costa believes Romero’s fight will lead him to get a title shot.
”I really liked the fact that they chose Romero. It couldn’t be better,” Costa said. “He’s the No. 1 in the rankings. Let’s do this, let’s get closer to the belt. This is the final step to the belt. I was asking for Weidman, but I didn’t really shoot for the moon. I asked for Weidman, but the UFC thought big and gave me Romero instead. It’s way better. I’m happy. It couldn’t be better.”
”I’ll get to the fight and impose my aggressive and brutal rhythm, going for the kill,” he continued. “Every strike will be a bomb. I’m confident. I’ll going there for a brutal finish, as always. This is how I see myself winning.”
Costa is, in fact, happy with Yoel Romero’s history of missing weight. Romero so far missed the 185-pound mark two straight times in his last two showdowns. In the wake of this issue, his team to open up to make a possible move to light heavyweight in future.
Brazilian is hoping here that Cuban misses weight for their fight so he can get part of his purse.
”The fact that he has trouble make weight cheers me up,” Costa said. “It’s 20 percent more going to my pocket. Everything I want is him to miss weight. Get there heavy and give me my 20 or 30 percent. Thirty is even better. That’s all I want. Yoel Romero, eat a lot and get there heavy, please. I want your 30 percent.”
UFC 230 PPV event is scheduled to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 3rd.
