Patricio Freire Keeps The Strap, Outpoints Juan Archuleta!
Bellator 228 is taking place live now (Saturday, September 28, 2019) from inside The Forum in Inglewood, California. The two-division champ Patricio “Pitbull” Freire puts his Featherweight title up for grabs versus Juan “The Spaniard” Archuleta.
The ref in charge of this contest is Jason Herzog. It starts!
Round 1
Archuleta circles a lot, no strikes. The crowd starts to boo. Archuleta lands a groin shot. The referee stops, then restarts the contest. Head kick Archuleta, but he goes down and attempts an up-kick. Freire goes for a guillotine, and Jason warns him not to knee his rival to the head.
Freire lets the choke go, not much action in this round. A knee to the body and chest, I’d say Freire 10-9.
Round 2
Archuleta eye-poked Freire, the ref calls time. Herzog warns him about his actions, the match goes on. Archuleta shoots in, both fighters against the fence but not much action. Herzog asks action, and the crowd starts to boo again.
Archuleta misses with a flying kick, drops on his back. I really don’t know… 10-10 not much action this round?
Round 3
Archuleta is missing over and over, he’s unable to land a clean strike. Pitbull drops him with a big right, then he goes for a guillotine. Archuleta is bleeding but the ref lets the bout continue.
Archuleta misses with a head kick and a right uppercut, his right eye looks bad. Freire continues to land clean shots, then Archuleta changes levels. Freire caught him into the guillotine, saved by the bell. 10-9 Freire.
Round 4
Freire continues to wait for his opponent to come into the center. Freire evades an axe kick, then knocks Juan down with a left hook.
Freire takes his back but Juan gets back on his feet. Reverse elbows to the ribs. Juan goes for a flying knee and misses and but kicks his foe to the groin cup. Herzog warns him, the bout restarts, a few more good shots on both sides. Freire blocks a shot, and he looks for a guillotine. 10-9 Freire.
Round 5
Freire landed two rights and a great knee in the first minute. Fighters on the fence, great reversal by Freire. Fighters in the clinch, and they separate. Left hand Freire, I think Archuleta is warned for an accidental headbutt.
Right-hand Freire, he goes for a single-leg, Archuleta back on his feet almost immediately. Freire pushes Juan across the cage, changing levels nicely. Great slam by “Pitbull” to end the fight, I think 10-9 Freire.
Final Result: Patricio Freire defeats Juan Archuleta via Unanimous Decision (49-46, 50-45, 49-46)
