UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping isn’t sold on Aljamain Sterling’s chances of getting an immediate rematch against Sean O’Malley.

Sterling vs O’Malley headlined UFC 292 inside TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. Aljo had plans to call out UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski. That didn’t end up happening as O’Malley scored a second-round TKO to capture the bantamweight title previously held by Sterling.

Sean O’Malley vs. Aljamain Sterling 2? Michael Bisping Isn’t Sold

As seen in the video above, Aljamain Sterling has called for an immediate rematch with Sean O’Malley. While the general consensus is that the “Funk Master” deserves a rematch based on merit, Michael Bisping took to his “Believe You Me” podcast to express doubt about the matchup being booked again in the near future.

“I don’t think it’s gonna happen because for whatever reason, he’s not the most popular guy,” Bisping said.

“Aljo’s a great guy, he’s a nice guy. Yeah, he plays the heel, he talks a lot of sh*t, but if you’re gonna get booed then you might as well. It’s because of that, I don’t know if he will get the immediate rematch. I think on merit alone you’re probably right, probably does deserve it, but with ‘Chito’ Vera being there, with ‘Sugar’ Sean O’Malley being the massive star that he is and the star that he’s gonna be, I think, not that they’re gonna sidestep, but it’s just popularity talks and he’s not that popular for whatever reason. He should be, he’s criminally underrated.”

O’Malley has said he wants to fight again “Chito” Vera in a rematch this December at UFC 296. Up to this point, Vera has been the only fighter to defeat O’Malley in pro MMA competition. “Chito” scored a first-round TKO finish over the “Sugar” show back in August 2020 at UFC 252.
