Marlon Vera is growing tired of the constant delays that seem to plague the top of the UFC’s bantamweight division lately.

Sitting in the No. 4 spot in the 135-pound rankings, ‘Chito’ is riding a four-fight win streak and is on the cusp of a bantamweight title opportunity, but first, he will have to contend with his next opponent, No. 5 ranked Cory Sandhagen. The two are scheduled to clash on February 18th in a potential title eliminator, but even with a victory, ‘Chito’ may have to wait quite a while for his shot at UFC gold. The division’s current champion revealed that he is still recovering from a lingering bicep injury and ruled out a rumored scrap with the returning Henry Cejudo in March.

With that fight on hold and Sean O’Malley still waiting for his shot as the division’s No. 1 ranked contender, things are getting a little crowded at the top. Recently, Marlon Vera spoke with John Morgan of MMA Underground to vent his frustration over delays at the top of the division, specifically calling out Cejudo who is expected to walk into a bantamweight title fight despite being inactive for the better part of three years.

“I feel like this. If you’re able to leave the sport and come back and go straight to the top, I’m like, ‘Good for you.’ I’m like, ‘If you’re able to pull that off, you are somebody.’ At the end of the day, I’m a guy, I’m a real man able to recognize those things. I’m able to see what’s wrong and right and not just to speak for myself like, you know, hyping things up, but don’t get me wrong. I have that motherf*cker in front of me, I’ll put him out too and I really believe I will.

“He can have all this talk and all this. I’m like, ‘You’re f*cking three feet tall. I’m gonna kick you right in the face. I’m gonna walk you down. I feel like I will force him to shoot and he will shoot and you know, he can be Olympic and all that sh*t. I don’t give two f*cks. This is MMA. I’m gonna slice you open. I’m gonna try submissions on you, but at the end of the day, that’s not the fight I have in front of me.”

Vera is staying focused on the task at hand which is a massive top-five showdown between himself and Cory Sandhagen, but once he takes care of business next month, ‘Chito’ is happy to leave the door open for Cejudo to walk right through it.

“After that, I can figure out what can be next, but I want the picture to be kind of open, you know? Get a date, start eating some vegetables you fat f*ck, sign the contract. Stop playing games online and acting like a f*cking dork. Sign the contract and keep the division going.”
