Magomed Ankalaev is making an effort to be more active on social media per the UFC’s request.

One of the top men in the UFC light heavyweight division is Magomed Ankalaev. He is fresh off his first UFC title fight at UFC 282, although the bout did not end his way. He took on Jan Blachowicz in the main event of the last PPV of the year for the vacant light heavyweight title. The bout ended in a split draw, leaving the belt vacant. Following the draw, Ankalaev explained his frustration and is now looking for more ways to gain the attention of fans and the UFC.

He has taken to Twitter to create an “American” account to bring up the following of his English-speaking fans. This plan was not his idea however, he explained that the UFC is making him up his social media presence.

Magomed Ankalaev says the UFC wants to see more from him on social media

Ankalaev has only lost one fight in his entire professional career. He came into the title fight having won nine in a row. Although many believe that he should have gotten another chance at the title following the draw, the UFC had a different idea. Now Glover Teixeira will be taking on Jamahal Hill for the vacant belt in Brazil.

Ankalaev felt that he did enough to win and spoke about this following returning home to Dagestan after the event.

“We earned the victory but the judges decided not to give it to us and made it a draw,” he said.

Now he is getting some pressure from the UFC to up his social media game.

“Hi everyone, this is my American account. To be a great fighter is not enough to get my title, I have to become a media active too,” he wrote on Twitter. “UFC is asking for it, and I will do it.”

It is interesting that the UFC has made this request to Ankalaev following his draw. It is no secret that the UFC pushes fighters with big followings. Now it seems that they want to make sure that anyone who could be a big star or champion has the kind of following they would expect at the highest level.
