Leon Edwards knew exactly what beating Conor McGregor means to his career and he is not shying away from the possibility to do so.
Leon wants to add Conor on his list
Speaking to Sky Sports, “Rocky” once again reiterated that he fancies facing “Notorious,” preferably sooner rather than later. For Edwards, to defeat such an iconic figure as McGregor would cement his name as one of the greatest fighters of all time.
That said, the reigning welterweight champion would pounce on the opportunity to headline a UFC event at MSG against the one and only McGregor.
“I thought that’s a great fight for the audience and it’s massive, why not? That’s the fight that will get everyone talking and it’s an entertaining fight and to give him a chance to win a third belt, I think it’d be brilliant. New York, MSG. So, to get Conor McGregor and to headline Madison Square Garden, such an iconic venue it would be brilliant, why not?,” Edwards said.
“I think it [beating McGregor] adds to my legacy, adds to what I’m trying to chase within the sport. To be the best of all time. to add him to my list of opponents that I’ve defeated, only adds to my greatness and to my legacy for sure,” he added.
Leon’s UFC 303 main event prediction
There have been some issues going on with UFC 303 but the McGregor vs. Chander fight is still officially booked. The way Edwards sees it, “Notorious” has a better chance of winning and he would even put his money on McGregor if he is to bet on that fight.
“Conor can win. I can see a lot of ways of victory for Conor and If I had to bet… I bet on Connor to win the fight you know, I think he’s like a great counter puncher, Chandler is aggressive, smaller than Conor. So, I probably favor Conor to win the fight,” Edwards predicted.
Edwards is set to defend his title against Belal Muhammad at UFC 304 in Manchester, England. He hopes that McGregor and the UFC get over the hump with UFC 303 and perhaps, discuss a massive showdown between him and “Notorious.”
