UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Will Defend His Title In September

Khabib Nurmagomedov remains barred from competing inside the Octagon after being received a nine-months of suspension from NSAC for instigating a UFC 229 post-fight brawl immediately after submitting Conor McGregor in the fourth round last October.

Commission also offered him to participate in the anti-bullying courses that will subtract his suspension to six months. However, Russian turned it down and suggested he could sit out until November in solidarity with his two teammates Abubakar Nurmagomedov and Zubaira Tukhugov who also handed a 12-months of suspension.

Recently UFC head honcho Dana White revealed that Khabib is targeting a September return. (h/t RT.com)

“He’ll be back in September,” White said to UFC Unfiltered. “It’s one of the things with him anyways, he’s on suspension, and then he doesn’t fight during Ramadan. That puts him at September.”

White’s comments are also echoing the same report what a few days before an MMA Team Dagestani a Twitter group also imply that Russian sure is making his comeback in September.

Khabib just confirmed my report about September fight on his Russian social media page called VK. He reposted a post saying “According to Dana White, Khabib’s next fight will be in September”

Earlier today Khabib took to social media and caption this “see you soon my fans very soon”

So Who’s the lucky opponent for the 27-0 fighter? Well, it wouldn’t be Conor Mcgregor who recently announced his retirement from UFC. Khabib’s next foe will most likely be the winner of Max Holloway vs. Dustin Poirier who’re clashing for an interim lightweight title at UFC 236 on April 13.

There are another top contender and former interim champion Tony Ferguson who’s riding on an 11-fight winning streak. Both Ferguson and Khabib never got a chance to throw down even they came close for a whopping four times.

Who do you want to see Khabib fight next?
