Kevin Lee Scores Fifth Round Doctor’s Stoppage Win Over Edson Barboza

Top lightweight contenders Kevin Lee and Edson Barboza faced off tonight in the main headliner of UFC Fight Night 128 (Sat., April 21, 2018) from inside the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ.

Kevin Lee scored a fifth-round TKO victory over Brazilian striker Edson Barboza after a doctor’s stoppage due to a cut. Lee authenticated himself as a true force to be reckoned with in the lightweight division.

Lee dominated Barboza with his wrestling game in the early rounds but Lee can’t keep Barboza down in the third round as Barboza lands a spinning back kick that hobbled his Lee, however, Lee managed to survive the round. Lee controlled most of the game in the fourth round scoring the takedown and deliver damage on the ground. By the fifth round, Lee hurled strikes at Barboza before the doctor waved the contest off due to a nasty Barboza cut.

Kevin Lee was coming off a submission loss to Tony Ferguson at UFC 216, with this performance, Lee improved to 17-3 and won six of his past seven fights. Barboza dropped to 19-6 with his second straight loss.

After the victory, the Lee called out newly crowned lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
