Kevin Lee Explains Why He’d Prefer To Have Showdown With Khabib Over McGregor

Kevin Lee Says He’d Rather Fight Khabib Nurmagomedov: ‘Because People See him As Just This Unstoppable Tank’

Who doesn’t want to take a piece of pie where Conor Mcgregor is scheduled to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229. That showdown is considered the biggest fight thus far this year by UFC.

Another interested party is UFC lightweight Kevin Lee who’s currently trying to seek a spot at promotion’s upcoming card at UFC 229 on Oct. 6 at T-Mobile Arena and already requested a matchup with Anthony Pettis.

Earlier this year, ‘The Motown Phenom’ tried to bring former two-weight champion Georges St-Pierre into a 165-pound catchweight fight, but GSP didn’t take the bait. Lee says he and St-Pierre had a phone conversation, where former champion made it clear he wants the winner of Mcgregor vs. Khabib.

The last time Lee fought was back in April in the main event of UFC Atlantic City from Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, where Lee scores a fifth-round TKO win over Edson Barboza.’ Phenom’ is at the right spot currently as of 6-1 in his last seven fights, because he came up short in his chance to score the interim lightweight title in the bout prior with Tony Ferguson.

Lightweight contender Lee who’s paying close attention to Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor showdown, during his talk to Farah Hannoun, ‘The Motown Phenom’ said he’s hoping to get a shot at “The Eagle” while he’s still undefeated 26-0 overall. (Via BJPenn.com)

“I’D RATHER FIGHT KHABIB [NURMAGOMEDOV] TO BE HONEST. JUST BECAUSE…PEOPLE SEE HIM AS JUST THIS UNSTOPPABLE TANK. YA KNOW, CONOR [MCGREGOR’S] ALREADY GOT A COUPLE LOSSES ON THERE. SO CONOR TAKES IT AWAY FROM ME.

TO BE THE ONE TO GET RID OF THAT 0… SOMETHING LIKE THAT ONLY COMES AROUND ONCE IN A LIFETIME. ESPECIALLY WITH A GUY LIKE KHABIB. I JUST SEE HIM, I’M A LION MYSELF. WHEN I SEE THAT MEAL I GOTTA GO FOR IT.”

No doubt, Khabib is the most feared wrestler in MMA right now and had steamrolled all of his opponents inside the Octagon. Regarding fighting style, Lee and Khabib would be a tough matchup.

While Khabib is slated to defend his title, during that time frame, Lee can score a high profile win over Pettis if they get booked, or someone else can make a strong case for him to get a shot at a title next.

Currently, all the eyes stick to UFC 229 PPV card which is set to take place Saturday, October 6, 2018, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
