JZ Cavalcante vs. Josh Thomson is going down October 9th in San Jose

In the never ending battle of really cool full names, JZ Cavalcante has already defeated Josh Thomson. Actually, JZ’s real name is Gesias Cavalcante Souza and all of those names could defeat your name in an imaginary universe in which names could battle to the death. Fortunately for guys like Ben Henderson, Matt Hughes, Mike Pierce, Scott Smith and Jesse Taylor, that universe doesn’t exist. JZ Cavalcante sounds like an unlockable character in Soul Caliber.

MMAWeekly broke the news that a match between JZ Cavalcante vs. Josh Thomson will go down October 9th in Strikeforce: San Jose. It’s the same card that will feature Diaz vs. Noons II, Kaufman vs. Coenen, Lindland vs. Rockhold and a few other fights that will eventually be announced within a few weeks.

It’s not the Kawajiri vs. Thomson match that we were hoping for, but I guess we all have Shinya Aoki to blame for that. According to Kawajiri’s blog, there was no major damage after his Dream 15 bout with Shinya, but he’s still recovering from lingering discomfort in his leg. That’s what happens when you let the Tobikan Judan attach his fingers to any appendage you have. When I met Aoki in LA a few months ago, I didn’t even shake his hand. I need these things.

If we’re going by some twisted, linear logic, Thomson defeated Gilbert Melendez who defeated Shinya Aoki who defeated Tatsuya Kawajiri who lost to Gilbert Melendez who defeated Josh Thomson. So technically, the world should explode on October 9th out of sheer confusion. [Source]
