Justin Gaethje got a special phone call after his win over Dustin Poirier at UFC 291.

Gaethje was headlining UFC 291 in Salt Lake City, Utah in a rematch against Dustin Poirier for the vacant BMF belt. It was a highly-anticipated rematch and in the second round, Gaethje landed a beautifully-timed head kick that knocked Poirier out.

Gaethje’s victory was a huge moment, and after the fight, he received a phone call from former US President Donald Trump.

“I got a call from Trump, that was awesome. He f*****g loves fighting, man. He loves it. Yeah, he called me and told me how good I did, how proud of me he was, how impressive of a show it was,” Gaethje said to TMZ Sports. “Then, if I’m ever in New York or Florida hit him up and hopefully we can golf.”

Receiving a phone call from Donald Trump was a highlight for Gaethje, and he hopes they can golf together. The win was significant for Justin Gaethje as it puts him in line for the next title shot after Dustin Poirier’s victory. Islam Makhachev is scheduled to defend his belt against Charles Oliveira in October.

After the win, Gaethje said he plans on facing the winner and does hope it is against Oliveira so he can avenge that loss.

“I’d prefer Charles because he beat me,” Gaethje said after UFC 291. “I’m a competitor, this chance at redemption was amazing… It drove me to work harder, be ready more, but they’re the best in the world, and I want to fight the best in the world. After the last fight, I couldn’t see Charles winning [against Islam at UFC 294] but I can hope.”

With the KO win over Dustin Poirier, Justin Gaethje improved to 25-4 and is now on a two-fight win streak.
