Josh Burkman just won the bloody sweepstakes to fight Jon Fitch at World Series of Fighting 3, but he kind of wants Fitch to ‘earn a shot at the title’ before he and Fitch meet in the cage. Hmph. In a confusing turn of events after Burkman pretty much dominated the recently UFC-ousted Aaron Simpson, bloodying his face and then finishing him off with a knee to the dome that made Simpson’s head bounce like a juggled soccer ball, Burkman decided that he wants a shot at the WSOF title, and that Fitch needs to prove himself first.
Luckily it’s not us to decide who is worthy of a title shot, that’s on Ray Sefo we think, but let’s break this down: The only other welterweights to fight and win in the WSOF are Richard Patishnock, who defeated Igor Gracie tonight, Danillo Villefort, who defeated Kris McCray by split-decision earlier this evening, or Tyson Steele or Steve Carl, who fought at the last event. Personally, I think Burkman/Fitch should be for the WSOF title considering Fitch’s legacy, but I’m down for whatever I suppose. Damn, welterweight is so ridiculously deep across the sport.
