Aldo May Be Forced To Withdraw From UFC 237 Bout With Volkanovski

Jose Aldo’s future at UFC 237 is still uncertain. The former UFC Featherweight Champion may be unable to compete due to a knee infection.

Aldo spoke at a media scrum Thursday to discuss the issues he has been having with his knee. He provided details on what caused the problem, via a translator.

“i was training wrestling last week, and i went in for a double leg takedown. i burned my knee on the mats, and that infected. so i went to the hospital, and my knee was pretty swollen. once i went in there, they kept me in the hospital.”

Aldo would go on to explain that his bout with Alexander Volkanovski is still uncertain. He detailed that he was supposed to stay overnight at the hospital. However, he was forced to stay two more days after the antibiotics did not work.

“obviously i thought about not being able to fight, and i still can’t say that i’m going to fight because i need to go to the doctor and get it REEVALUATED.”

Jose Aldo explained that he was supposed to go to the doctor that day, yet had to do media instead. He said that the knee was still swollen, but he was still training the best he could.

Aldo is very determined to compete in his backyard of Rio de Janerio, Brazil. He is coming off a victory over Renato Moicano in Fortaleza, Brazil. However, he is nearing the end of his career, and the opportunity for the former champ to compete at home are nearing their end.
