Jose Aldo: UFC Needs To Make Conor McGregor To Defend Or Vacate His Belt

MMA world as well fans are still waiting to see when UFC lightweight champion Conor “Notorious” McGregor will defend his belt. Even he got many options available on his way to pick.

Newly interim lightweight champ Tony Ferguson won the bout via triangle choke submission in the third against Kevin Lee at UFC 216 last month. After the win, Ferguson calls out Mcgregor for in hope for potential title unification bout. Event UFC president showed his interest in that fight it has to happen. Since then there is no news on this.

Conor McGregor won the lightweight title against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in Nov. 2016. But since then he has yet to defend the gold as Notorious dedicated his 2017 in preparation for his highly anticipated boxing debut with Floyd Mayweather.

The former featherweight champion Jose Aldo, who is scheduled to rematch against Max Holloway in the main headliner of UFC 218 on Dec. 2, spoke with reporters during a media day in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He said UFC need to decide on Conor Mcgregor, have him defend the belt or vacate it.

“Thank God my division is moving. It would be bad if it was stuck, but my division is moving,” Aldo said. “It’s hard, right? Every athlete dreams of becoming champion, fighting for the title, and the guy is holding up the division. But it’s up to the UFC to make the decisions.

“The UFC needs to do what has to be done: you take the belt away or make him defend it. I think everyone is waiting for that.”

It’s highly skeptical that UFC lightweight champ Conor Mcgregor will appear in the octagon this year. Aldo stated that even if Mcgregor competes for title unification bout against Ferguson, chances are he will lose the UFC title belt.

“Yes, this time is coming,” Aldo said, “He has to defend it, has to put his belt on the line in order to become champion. He only won the title. For me, Ferguson has great possibilities of becoming champion in the future.” (Via MMA fighting).

Do you guys agree with Jose Aldo’s above statement?
