Reigning UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones left the Theatre at The Madison Square Garden, New York clearly dismayed after his friend and training partner Maurice Greene got brutally knocked out by Renan Ferreira during their heavyweight showdown at the PFL 8 2023 playoffs.

A disappointing Ending

Greene came in brimming with confidence but the fight did not go his way as he got flattened out by Ferreira with a vicious right hand in the final seconds of the opening round. Better luck next season

The KO loss to Ferreira saw Greene eliminated from this season’s tournament. In his last campaign, “The Crochet Boss” also lost to former champion Ante Delija via unanimous decision in the second round of regular season bouts at PFL 5 2023.

Jones and Greene have been teammates at the famed Jackson-Wink MMA gym. Greene would be working on his game and hope to bounce back in the next tournament. On the other hand, “Bones” is set to defend his UFC heavyweight belt for the first time against former champ Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 in November.
