- John McCarthy commented on Colby Covington’s status as a contender following UFC 296
- “Big John” said no other media outlet scored the bout in favor of “Chaos” at UFC 296
John McCarthy is certain Colby Covington is now in deep trouble as people begin to see that he couldn’t walk the talk.
Colby has a problem
Speaking on his Weighing In podcast, “Big John” pointed out that it’s difficult to be in Covington’s shoe at this point because he always failed to back his trash-talks and antics with performance whenever he was given a chance to fight for the title.
“The biggest problem with being who Colby is as a fighter is he’s got the shtick and when his performance doesn’t match the shtick, it becomes the problem because then, you’re looking and you’re going you’re not who you say you were, you said you were gonna do this, you said you were gonna do this, you didn’t do any of those things and that’s the problem with the shtick,” McCarthy explained.
Colby really lost
Covington claimed he beat Leon Edwards at UFC 296 and later revealed that he broke his foot early in the fight. According to McCarthy, he checked all the reliable media outlets that scored UFC 296 but not one of them gave it to “Chaos,” a strong indication that Covington really lost to Edwards.
“There wasn’t one, not one, media outlet scored the fight for Colby Covington. Now, normally the media outlets, there’s like 30 of them, one of them will score the fight for the opposite person unless it’s a submission or a knockout you know just always, [but] not one,” McCarthy added.
As it stands, Covington has now lost all of his three title fights. He is currently eyeing to face Stephen Thompson next but nothing relevant has progressed yet.
