- Joe Rogan said referee Marc Goddard described the sound of Alex Pereira’s strikes as “ungodly”
- The UFC commentator said he knew “Poatan” was different right from the start
Joe Rogan was surprised by what the UFC 307 main event referee told him about how insane Alex Pereira’s strikes sounded up close.
Alex’s strikes had a distinct sound
Speaking from the UFC 307 commentary table as the team wrapped up, Rogan revealed what referee Marc Goddard said about Pereira’s strikes. According to the famous podcaster, Goddard described the unusual sound that every strike the Brazilian made as “ungodly.”
“I was in the octagon after the fight and Marc Goddard came up to me and he said, ‘I’ve been doing this for 20 years. The way he hits people, the sound, is like nothing I’ve ever heard before.’ He said, ‘It’s ungodly.’ That’s what he kept saying, he said, ‘It’s ungodly,'” Rogan told Daniel Cormier and Jon Anik.
Alex is a different kind of human
Rogan further pointed out that he knew early on that “Poatan” was far from the ordinary after watching how dangerous Pereira was even back in kickboxing.
“That man is just different in every way shape or form,” Rogan said of Pereira. “I knew this coming in to his MMA career, I knew this from kickboxing… This is a different thing you’re dealing with… It’s like a different kind of human. He’s built different, there’s something about him… also the style is different, the movement is different, the way he’s able to land extraordinary power with no telegraph, the way he’s able to damage your calves and slowly start breaking you down… even the way he cuts weight is different. It’s like the weight comes off him easy like a lot of weight and it just comes off of him.”
Aside from Rogan, many have also been wondering why Pereira is just otherworldly strong compared to other fighters. Following his KO win over Khalil Rountree at UFC 307, “Poatan” admitted that he may have been genetically gifted with unique strength but he still credits his success to his training.
