Jan Blachowicz is ready to test himself against Alex Pereira.
Blachowicz and Pereira are set to meet in the co-main event of UFC 291. It’s a highly-anticipated fight and to add to it, the light heavyweight title is now vacant, and Blachowicz plans to use his Polish magic to lead to the win.
“Yes, I use Polish magic. No, I’m using my magic but only before my own fight. I’m going to use it against Pereira, not against anybody else,” Blachowicz said to New York Post Sports.
Although Jan Blachowicz says he will use his Polish magic to get the win, he is excited about the matchup against Alex Pereira.
Blachowicz plans to test his Striking
Blachowicz says he wants to test his striking against Pereira to see where his standup matches up against the Brazilian. Yet, he says if he starts to get hit, he will take Pereira to the ground and use his wrestling to get a stoppage win.
“Experience will be on my side for sure. I have to be careful in the standup, he was the world champion in kickboxing, so I have to be careful,” Blachowicz said. “But, I want to try my standup with him in the cage so we will see, but, if I have to take him down, I will try to do it and finish him on the ground. But, first of all, I will try my stand up against a guy like Pereira because I want to see how I am going to look against him in this part of the fight.”
If Jan Blachowicz does finish Alex Pereira as he expects, he is confident the win will be enough to get him a title shot. He also expects to face Jiri Prochazka for the vacant title later this year.
“After this fight, me or Alex, I believe it will be me will have a title shot. We will see. My next fight after Pereira I think it will be Jiri Prochazka, but for me nothing has changed. I focus on Alex, I don’t think about what happens later, I just focus on him,” Blachowicz concluded.
