At one point in MMA’s timeline, Ken Shamrock held the title of ‘The World’s Most Dangerous Man’. I’m not sure if he still does, but he used to. Maybe it’s like once you become the President of the United States, you’re always the president. The last time we talked to Don Frye, he told us he would be happy to give Ken Shamrock a rematch and it’s safe to say that Shamrock would happily accept. Let’s face it, Don Frye called him out over ten years ago by accusing Ken Shamrock of cheating on his wife with a 19-year-old fan. That’s a hell of a way to pick a fight, and it worked. In Pride 19, Shamrock had Frye in an insane heel hook that destroyed ligaments and severely injured both of Frye’s ankles in the process. Despite the damage, Frye refused to tap and eventually won the split-decision. Ken Shamrock is the guy that ruined Don Frye’s career and arguably the person responsible for the collapse of Elite XC (sorry Seth Petruzelli).
Ken Shamrock says he’s the greatest fighter in MMA history — and that claim isn’t that far fetched. Set aside all of his late-career antics, Ken Shamrock established a certain paradigm within MMA that has been firmly held to this day. Don’t let Mark Coleman fool you, Ken Shamrock was the real inventor of the ‘ground and pound’ technique. Ken Shamrock was also the first superfight champion, a belt in which all weight classes are virtually filtered through. He was also the first foreigner to walk into Pancrase and become champion.
Therefore guys like Dana White should treat a potential GOAT with much more respect that issuing flippant comments when asked in the media. According to TMZ, both parties talked on the phone today and have squashed all beef.
But now, both Dana and Ken confirm to TMZ Sports … they spoke on the phone earlier today and hashed out their issues for 45 minutes — and the end result was a truce.Dana tells us, “Ken Shamrock and I spoke and we have squashed our beef.”
As for Shamrock … he says the call wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows — they addressed some tough issues — but in the end, were able to come to an understanding and decided to bury the hatchet.
“It’s bigger than us. It’s good for the UFC. It’s good for the fans.”
Let’s hope this leads to a return of the ‘The World’s Most Dangerous Man’ inside the Octagon because, well why not?
