It looks like Nick Diaz vs. Jeff Lacy is really going down this Fall

While Georges St. Pierre seems hesitate on moving up in weight to meet Anderson Silva at 185lbs (or even catchweight), Nick Diaz has just signed to box Jeff Lacy this Fall. The debate as to who is truly the number one welterweight in the world will undoubtedly continue, but we can’t deny who the most versatile 170lber on the face of the planet is.

According to our freestyle rapping Canadian buddy, Mauro Ranallo, Cesar Gracie confirmed on The Fight Show this morning that Nick Diaz is slated to fight Jeff Lacy in a boxing match at some point this Fall. Not many of you out there believe Diaz has the boxing expertise to keep a match with Jeff Lacey somewhat competitive, however just a month ago the same people were also saying that Nick Diaz should not stand with a striking aficionado like Paul Daley — and look what happened there. Don’t be surprised if this match takes place on Showtime and is heavily promoted by Strikeforce. I’m sure will have the odds on this bout by the end of the day, seriously. [Source]

Update: Ben Fowlkes from MMAFighting has a quote from Cesar Gracie basically saying all of this is just a way to force UFC to assemble a Nick Diaz vs. GSP fight.

“Nick has a signed contract but is waiting to sign an actual bout agreement,” Gracie wrote in a text message on Friday afternoon. “We are only waiting to see if Zuffa is serious about a Diaz-GSP fight.”
