Islam Makhachev is no longer getting a title shot… at least not anytime soon.

Things were looking good for the top UFC lightweight last week. Makhachev would make quick of Bobby Green, getting a first-round TKO. Riding a 10-fight win streak, he’d call for his next fight to be a title shot.

However, Makhachev’s case for a title shot would hit a speed bump when he called out Rafael Dos Anjos days later. He acted like he was going to step up to fight RDA on short notice, but nothing came up of it. UFC president Dana White wasn’t exactly happy with how things panned out, saying Makhachev declined the fight.

Islam’s Promise

Because of this, White won’t be giving the Dagestani an opportunity at UFC gold. Instead, it will likely be a rebooked fight against Beneil Dariush. It wouldn’t take long for Makhachev to respond to the news…

“I don’t care who you will put in front of me,” Islam wrote. “I’ll smash this whole division.”

It doesn’t look like Makhachev isn’t letting this get to him. He says he is willing to fight more people to secure a title shot. Which for him, one more fight against Beneil Dariush should do the trick.

‘Dana, you went to bed early’

White said he went to sleep, thinking the UFC had got a deal between Makhachev and RDA done. However, that was not the case when White woke up the next morning.

Makhachev jokes the UFC boss should have stayed awake a bit longer, to make everything happen.

“Dana, you went to bed to early, you gotta stay up late to get things done 😂😂😂.”
