‘The Hangman’ doesn’t mind hanging around for a big fight.
Hooker Throws His Name In The Hat For McGregor-Chandler
Dan Hooker has joined the rest of the UFC roster in wanting to fight Irish superstar Conor McGregor. Not made official by the UFC just quite yet, the former two-division champion announced his comeback fight against Michael Chandler on June 29. But, there is much doubt on whether the matchup will even take place.
The top-ten ranked lightweight has offered his services to take on either fighter, should this super-fight not come together.
“You obviously get to play the roulette. You get to take the gamble, the exact gamble I would like to take which is be the back-up for that fight,” Hooker told The Mac Life.
“Obviously fighting, couldn’t care who [I fight next]. Top to bottom. Whoever’s free but yeah on the [Jun. 29] card and whoever gets injured, that’s like my perfect fight. Either a rematch with Chandler, which is obviously a fight I’d die for or the McGregor fight. Everyone knows why you want to have that fight.”
‘Playing That Game Where You Can Step In’
History lies between Hooker and Chandler. In 2021, the former Bellator Champion finished Hooker in his promotional debut to start off what has been an exciting run inside the UFC. On the other hand, Hooker has managed to get back into winning ways since then and is ready to redeem himself in a potential rematch.
As for McGregor, the Kiwi already knows the kind of payday that comes with fighting ‘The Notorious’. Hooker is more than down to roll the dice in a back-up spot this summer.
“I would be ready to go probably May or early June. But, I’d be willing to wait to late June because you’re playing that game where you can step in.
“I don’t mind either of the blokes,” Hooker said of Chandler and McGregor. “I got no personal vendetta against like Chandler, that is what it is. He beat me fair and square. I got no qualms about that, that’s just the sport. Conor… that’s a cool fight card to be a part of. I’ve been a part of a McGregor card before.”
