Herschel Walker signs with Strikeforce

In a moment of sheer WTFness, I had to stop editing our new EA Sports MMA story (it will be published today, super-promise) and direct all of my remaining ADD attention to news that just broke. Heisman trophy winner and former Dallas Cowboy, Herschel Walker, has just signed with Strikeforce. Wow. Here’s what Scott Coker had to say about the signing:

“This isn’t a publicity stunt or a gimmick…Herschel Walker has tremendous athleticism, and he has always shown that off the gridiron. He’s accomplished a lot in his life and in the world of sports. His accomplishments speak for themselves, and we hope that his athleticism can transition into a successful MMA career.”

When I was busy buying $22 beers at the American Airlines Center for UFC 103, I caught Herschel Walker sitting in the crow getting mobbed by fans. Despite pronouncing ‘MMA’ wrong when he was briefly interviewed at Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg, Walker has always been an avid practitioner of martial arts (rocking out to ju-jitsu for over ten years). We’re assuming Herschel will cut down to 205 but there is always the possibility of Walker fighting at heavyweight which leads the very, very small window that we may get to see, get ready…Herschel Walker vs. Fedor. Got to love MMA. [Source]
