Henry Cejudo is hoping to secure a fight with Sean O’Malley in August.

The UFC announced that Aljamain Sterling would defend his bantamweight title against Sean O’Malley at UFC 292 in August. Yet, Sterling has said he isn’t sure if he will be ready to fight in August, and if can’t go in August, Cejudo is hoping he can secure an interim title fight against O’Malley.

Cejudo thinks Him vs. O’Malley is the ‘Bigger Fight’

However, if Cejudo doesn’t get the fight against O’Malley, the former champ-champ says he is more than willing to wait for Merab Dvalishvili.

“If Aljamain Sterling is playing this game that he is not ready, he needs a little more time, let’s make an interim fight between me and Sean O’Malley,” Cejudo said on his YouTube channel. “It’s a bigger fight, it’s what the UFC wanted initially. It’s the same reason why they brought me out to chase and beat Aljamain Sterling. If they believe that Sean O’Malley and myself would be a bigger fight then why not make it happen? I wanted Merab and I’m still willing to wait for Merab, but if that fight with Sean O’Malley happens to open up, I’m 100% in Dana White.

“If the UFC does want to have me as a backup, typically I wouldn’t be that type of guy that would do things like that, but right now, I don’t have the gold around my waist, so count me in,” Cejudo continued. “If I don’t get that fight with Sean O’Malley, I will wait for you Merab, don’t worry. Then, for your hand, stop sitting on your damn thumb. I will wait for you, I will break you,” Cejudo continued.

Currently, Alajmain Sterling has said he will fight in August and after that, he wants some time off. But, if he can’t go, Cejudo is more than ready to fight O’Malley on short notice for an interim title as he thinks it would sell a lot more than Sterling-O’Malley.
