Gilbert Burns says he is clear to return and is no longer feeling pain in his shoulder.
Burns suffered the injury during his decision loss to Belal Muhammad back in May. Since then, he has been rehabbing his injury and he revealed the shoulder is back to being 100 percent and is eyeing a return at UFC 299 or UFC 300.
“I’m clear. No pain. Shoulder is moving good. All range of motion is back. Strength. I’d say anything March or April, UFC 299 or UFC 300, I’ll be ready to go,” Burns said to TMZ Sports.
Although Gilbert Burns wants to return at UFC 299 or UFC 300, it’s uncertain if he will get his wish for that.
Gilbert Burns wants Colby Covington next
If Burns does get his wish of returning at UFC 299 or UFC 300, he also wants the opponent to be Colby Covington.
Burns expects Leon Edwards to beat Covington at UFC 296 and if that happens, the Brazilian thinks a fight between the two of them makes a lot of sense.
“I want to see how it goes. I think Leon Edwards is going to win, but both of these guys, Leon and Colby they are fighting for the title right now but aren’t active fighters. They are going to take a big break and then fight again. I’d love to fight Colby. I think Leon Edwards is gonna get the win, but who knows when he’s gonna come back. Or when either one of these guys is gonna come back. That would be my number-one pick. But, we have to wait, we still have a lot of fights in the division that same night, so I think after that night, I might be seeing who I fight next,” Burns said.
Whether or not Covington has any interest in fighting Burns should he lose to Edwards is uncertain. But, Burns says he’ll be paying close attention to UFC 296 to see who he will be fighting next.
