Frank Mir Thinks Heavyweight MMA Fighters Suck

Frank Mir Isn’t Worried About Getting Cut if He Loses to Roy Nelson

Frank Mir is one of the most famous names in MMA’s heavyweight history. Even at the age of 40, Mir is still fighting in Bellator, one of the world’s most elite mixed martial arts promotions. With 31 professional bouts under his belt, Frank still has the desire to going. And, if Mir were to get cut by Bellator, he’s not worried that he’d be able to get another job.

Mir recently sat down to speak with the media before Bellator 231. During the card, he’ll clash with Roy Nelson, who has competed in 40 professional bouts himself. Although they’ve faced each other before, Mir admitted that they’re both different fighters in the present day. Also, he revealed that winning or losing doesn’t actually matter.

Mir is currently riding a 4 fight losing skid. However, he believes if Bellator were to cut him, he’d have a new job by Monday.

Mir Speaks to the Media About Bellator 231

“I’m lucky that I’ve established myself so much in the sport that if Bellator wanted to cut me tomorrow, I’d sign with a new league on Monday,” Mir said “It’s not that hard. Especially with bare-knuckle fighting coming up. You see a lot of guys… the heavyweights … there aren’t a lot of us who are willing to fight that are good enough to fight that people are willing to watch.”

Mir continued. He explained how as long as a heavyweight has a decent showing, these days, it should be enough to allow them to sustain their career. Especially if they’ve established a name for themselves in the sport.

“As long as you don’t go out there and throw fights and you show that you don’t want to be there or make it painful to watch, winning or losing doesn’t really matter in this sport,” started Mir. “It really doesn’t. Hell, Randy Couture was 18-13. If I told you he was coming back right now, everybody would try to sign him.”

Mir Reveals that Heavyweights Suck

As the interview progressed, the sugar-coating of Mir’s words were removed when he simply said that heavyweights suck. Also, he explained why he feels like heavyweights in MMA are hard to watch.

“Heavyweights suck, the majority of us,” stated Mir. “We’re just not very good fighters. They’re like watching polar bears fighting over some food. Balance isn’t great. No one knows how to do submissions barely. Once you get out of the top ten, you’re really scratching the bottom of the barrel.”

Well, if that’s not enough to convince a fan to go watch Bellator 231, we’re not sure what would. In the bout, one of the men will lose. And, if it’s Frank Mir, he probably won’t care. So, if he wins we will see him in Bellator. However, if he loses, we may see him compete with bare fists.
