Forrest Griffin Releases A Statement On The Passing Of Stephan Bonnar

Forrest Griffin released a statement following the passing of his former opponent and friend Stephan Bonnar.

TUF alum Forrest Griffin paid his respects to his former opponent and friend Stephan Bonnar.

The MMA community is mourning the loss of a legend in the sport. On December 24 it was announced that former The Ultimate Fighter member and longtime UFC fighter Stephan Bonnar had passed away. Right away many fighters and fans of the UFC took to social media to express their sorrow and pay respects to the well-known UFC alum. 

Bonnar came to the UFC back in 2005 as a member of the first-ever season of The Ultimate Fighter. He proved himself to be the real deal and worked his way to the final. Pitted against Forrest Griffin in the finale, the two put on an amazing fight. It is still to this day considered one of the greatest fights in UFC history and some credit that bout for singlehandedly putting the UFC on the map. 

Now Griffin is joining fight fans all over the world in saying some words about his friend following his passing

Forrest Griffin took to Twitter to remember Stephan Bonnar

Griffin and Bonnar seemed to have been linked together following their legendary fight. The two had a rematch a year later and again Griffin came out victorious. They were both entered into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2013. Now Griffin is remembering his former foe-turned-friend. 

“Stephan was a lot of things: He was always the most interesting person in the room, he had the biggest heart and most importantly, he was my friend. I always loved it that people got excited when they found out we were really friends,” he wrote on social media. “I’ll always miss you, brother.

Since news of his passing many former and current fighters have come out with stories and kind words to honor this legend of the sport.
