Rob Font found himself back to his winning ways with a stunning first-round knockout victory over Adrian Yanez at UFC 287. As expected, the 35-year-old is looking to face a big name like Deiveson Figueiredo or a top-5 opponent like Petr Yan or Marlon Vera next.

Massive fight only

In an exclusive interview with Middle Easy, Font said he called out Figueiredo because it’s the type of massive fight he’s looking for. Sitting at No. 6 in the bantamweight rankings, Font also fancies either a showdown with Yan or a rematch with “Chito.”

“I would love to get in there with another big name. I don’t feel I wanna fight backwards again. The way the division looks, It’s like Sean [O’Malley] obviously, probably gonna get the next title shot… You also have Petr Yan, and I would love to get the Chito rematch… I see me getting the Petr fight more over Chito rematch… [Deiveson] wants to fight back up the bantamweight division, he’s a huge name, ex-champion, he talks a lot of sh*t, so it’s gonna be entertaining as far as the build up before the fight. And I love to welcome him back to the division,” Font explained.

Font also made it clear that he wouldn’t settle for any opponent below him.

“I would say Petr Yan… but I could also see how we can make that Chito fight happen… Chito didn’t seem that he got banged up really in that last fight [against Sandhagen]. So, it’s not like he’s gonna be waiting, neither do Petr Yan… I don’t see how they don’t make that fight happen… but if it doesn’t, I don’t wanna fight backwards. I think it makes sense,” he added.

Rob wants it sooner rather than later

Font showed the current condition of his swollen left eye to Middle Easy and insisted that it’s totally “fine.” He thinks he could already return as early as June or late this year.

“No major cuts, jaw feels great, hands feel great. I’ll say about another two weeks to go down and I’m fighting back in June… October, November the latest… I would wait for the right fight,” he concluded.

Font is no stranger to facing former champions, having defeated Cody Garbrandt and lost to Jose Aldo. However, Figueiredo seems interested in Dominick Cruz instead.

On the other hand, Yan and Vera are both coming off a loss to top-5 bantamweights. Vera felt short-handed against Sandhagen at UFC San Antonio, while “No Mercy” suffered a decision loss to Dvalishvili at UFC Las Vegas last month.
